The Back Story
Looking for another creative outlet for his song writing, guitar playing, and story telling ability, the legendary Billy Wells has put together this three-piece project to bring an honest, straightforward love of music and people to the masses. With the help of longtime drummer bandmate Shane Wanek back in the saddle, they turned their eyes to bassist Dave Cassell for bass and backing vocals.
We are St Pete Sons, and on occasion, are graced by an impressive up and comer, Billy’s son, River Wells on guitar. Together, we all share the same understanding that music rules all and if we can be a catalyst for happy days, we will.
Formed in 2018 by Billy and Shane, who have been bandmates since the late 80’s thru various bands such as Men From Earth, Gunburner, and Dead Dove to name a few, the St Pete Sons’ project transpired from an acknowledgement that the local music scene needed a step away from digi-music to a more tangible musician-type atmosphere, with influences that span a variety of genres and decades. Enter Cassell, a relatively ‘unknown’ to the scene, but a devout believer of this plan. From Waylon Jennings to Simple Minds to G Love and the Special Sauce, the coalescence of these artists head the band in a direction to which most everyone can relate. Within our original music, an endorsement to love, ethics, hard work, and good times is the common thread that connects us together, with an audience, to bring an authentic vibe to every show.
Engulfed in creativity, our endeavors include cutting our teeth thru the local music circuit and eventually dropping recorded material for the amusement to us and the world. With optimism and ambition, we embrace a reciprocating love with a fan base that appreciates a truly good time thru music.
